Counter Notes no. 01 by Eunice What Do Black Flats Have to Do With a Peeler? A letter from me, every Wednesday, about the everyday things worth having.
I have a confession. I obsess over the most minute details. Like when I was looking for new black flats the other day. The toe box had to be perfectly square with the tiniest of lifts in the heel. I ordered four different pairs and returned them all. As my friends often remind me, I’m picky about my basics. The things I reach for every day should be beautifully made and still feel like mine. That’s the whole idea behind Material. We look at the workhorses of the kitchen, the pieces everyone owns and nobody questions, and we ask whether they could work better and look more beautiful. The answer is usually yes.
Making the mundane better It’s rated 4.8 stars, and one reviewer has used hers daily for two years. ✱ I borrowed the idea from an everyday razor ✱ It’s stainless steel, so it doesn’t warp or crack. ✱ The U-shaped design makes it easy to change up your grip based on what you’re peeling ✱ I wanted it to feel like a piece of jewelry Meet The Forever Peeler →
Every Wednesday, I’ll share a few things that hit those same notes. Some we designed and some we didn’t. Some live in the kitchen and some don’t. Good things are meant to be shared.
Something I love that isn’t ours Salt bread. One of my first stops whenever I land in Seoul is Jayeondo Salt Bread, and I think about it between trips. It’s buttery and salty, plush inside with a crisp outside. My good friend Hana wrote a recipe for it at Bon Appétit, so you can make it at home. Hana’s salt bread →
A sneak peek since you’ve made it this far I just touched the fabric of something coming this holiday season, and it’s the softest, most gorgeous thing. More when I can. Eunice Co-founder and CEO
P.S. If your peeler is giving you a hard time, we wrote a little guide on knowing when it’s time to let it go. READ MORE HERE
