We’re expanding our facilities in Normal

Here’s what that means for R2.

Since being revealed to the world in March 2024, we’ve been working tirelessly to prepare for the launch of R2, starting with construction of a major expansion to our existing plant in Normal, Illinois.

This includes a new 1.1 million sq. ft. building to house the assembly operations and body shop for R2. Despite the freezing Illinois winter, exterior work will wrap up in Q2 2025, and our planned annual capacity will increase to 215,000 units across our vehicle lines when the expansion is complete.

Thanks to this rapid progress, we’re proud to share that we will launch R2 out of our plant in Normal — helping us reduce capital costs and stay on track to begin R2 deliveries as planned in 2026.
