Why do our cells age, and how can we slow the process down? At a recent TEDxMIT talk, Elysium co-founder and chief scientist Leonard Guarente, Ph.D., traced his 30-plus-year journey studying sirtuins—the essential maintenance proteins that repair DNA and protect cellular health. As Dr. Guarente explained, sirtuins need a critical coenzyme called NAD+ to function, but NAD+ levels drop significantly as we age.
