How do you say CHICLE?
💬 We need to settle this.
Nathan & Sons promotes their natural gum products, highlighting the use of chicle, a natural tree sap harvested from the sapodilla tree. They share the history and pronunciation of the word "chicle" and invite customers to participate in a tradition older than synthetic gum. The brand encourages customers to "chew real gum" with their Underbrush product.

How do you pronounce "chicle"?
⬜ I've been avoiding saying it out loud entirely
You're probably right either way.
In English, most people say "chic-ul."
In Spanish, it's "chic-lay."
Here at Nathan & Sons, we use the American English pronunciation.
What actually is chicle?
It's a natural tree sap harvested from the sapodilla tree.
For generations, people in Central America and Mexico have collected, cooked, and chewed this natural latex as gum.
Long before gum became a synthetic blob of plastic and artificial flavoring, there was chicle.
From real trees.
CHEW REAL GUM
Fun fact: The word "chicle" comes from the Nahuatl word "tzictli" (the language spoken by the Aztecs). And yes, Aztecs chewed chicle resin. So every time you chew Underbrush, you're participating in a tradition that's a lot older than the gum aisle at your local convenience store.
That's one of the reasons we use chicle alongside mastic and spruce resin.
Because if we're going to make gum, we'd rather start with ingredients that actually have a history.
