Welcome back to my Top 5 — five things worth knowing, two minutes to read. Skim what you want. Read what grabs you.

1. THE BEST FINISH LINE IN SPORTS

Yesterday I was at UTMB in France — the unofficial trail running world championships, 108 miles around Mont Blanc. Records were destroyed. But what struck me is that this is the best finish line in any sport.

The athletes turn the last corner with 300 feet to go, and as a fan you watch them change — from race face to realizing that the last 18+ hours are over, and they conquered it. Few sports let you see that moment. They're in such a deep flow state to the very end (literally until they turn that corner) that you watch them realize it at the same time they do. Then the celebration: the crowd, the chants, the Viking-like theme songs. The best finish line show in sports.
