In Your Own Words: Rivian Software

What our owners have to say about OTAs

With Spooky Season upon us, thoughts at Rivian turn to ghosts, candy, and software updates. Two of those are seasonal. The third we think about all year long.

Sometimes it’s a fun one like Ghostbusters. Other months, it’s a big change like adding Autonomy+ assistive features features,1 changing your ride dynamics, or enhancing Rivian Assistant2 to make your vehicle just a little bit better overnight.

We asked a few owners to tell us about a favorite update over the years. Here’s what they told us.

“Probably any Halloween mode, because it drives the adults and kids crazy with happiness.”

—Sapan Dhora (Rivian Owner since 2022)

“Pet Comfort mode has to be my favorite feature of the Rivian, being able to monitor the cabin temperature from my phone while the dogs are recovering from a hike, swimming in their favorite watering hole, or after just enjoying a long day out allows my wife and I to run errands on the way home knowing our pups are comfortable.”

— Gary Halsey (Rivian Owner since 2022)

“One of my favorite features of the R1S is the Climate Schedule feature in the app. Being able to not only turn on the climate from anywhere, but also choose the exact temperature and watch the car cool down is really important to me as a mom.”

—Amanda Kane (R1S Owner since 2024)

“My favorite update is the off-road software update. Being able to see what each motor is doing and the temperatures they are operating at is incredibly helpful. About a week after it launched, I had to assist an older Tacoma coming down Stampede Pass after it blew a radiator. The Rivian acted as an anchor, helping control speed on the descent. I was able to regen the entire way down….It is not something I do daily, but when the time comes to help, you sometimes have to do unconventional things.”

—Dominic Wilkerson (Rivian Owner since 2023)

“The Camp mode features are amazing, but most importantly the ability to level the truck is my favorite. Over the course of these road trips, we slept in our truck tent over 60 nights. Driving into your campsite, hitting a button on the screen, and letting it work its magic is simply amazing.”

— Ryan & Maggie Davis (R1T Owners since 2023)

Thanks to Sapan, Gary, Amanda, Dominic, Ryan and Maggie for sharing, and to every owner who sends us a note, a photo or a very specific feature request.
