A Presidential Visit

The monumental news this week: President Donald J. Trump visited GM’s flagship Michigan test site, becoming the first sitting U.S. president to visit Milford Proving Ground. The President selected GM and its famous proving grounds as the location to highlight American automotive innovation, engineering, and manufacturing.

In her welcome address to the audience at Milford, GM Chair and CEO Mary Barra noted, “GM will spend more than $16 billion in the U.S. this year on manufacturing and R&D. It reflects our strong commitment to the U.S.”

Barra’s words underscored GM’s commitment to domestic manufacturing, which we saw elsewhere on GM News this week, with an announcement of more than $430 million invested across two manufacturing sites, including approximately $157 million in Missouri’s Wentzville Assembly and $275 million across Tennessee’s Spring Hill manufacturing complex.

And if you can’t yet tell your Milford from your Fairfax, GM News is here to help. We offer you a handy primer on every GM assembly plant currently operating in the U.S. The comprehensive list pairs well with another piece published ahead of the President’s historic visit: 20 facts about Milford Proving Ground, GM’s century-old test site.
