Child Safety, Digital Key, OnStar’s 30th
This week, we celebrated Child Passenger Safety Week. For 118 years, GM has worked to help make vehicles safer for all, including breakthroughs in the design and development of child safety seats. But the week reminds us there’s so much to strive for still, whether through technology or advocacy.
“According to Safe Kids Worldwide,” Chris Perkins writes in our GM News post, “using child seats can reduce risk of death up to 71%, but concerningly, the organization says more than 50% of car seats are used incorrectly, or not at all. GM began a collaboration with Safe Kids Worldwide in 1997, and in the years since, they’ve educated over 29.9 million people, performed 2.47 million seat checks/inspections, and provided over 810,000 car seats to families around the U.S.”
It's a great reminder to check the installation of the child safety seats in your own car. And if you’ve ever had to wrestle your child into their car seat, you’ll know how useful a free hand (or two) can be. As such, we welcome GM’s digital key, a virtual version of your physical car key that lives right on your compatible mobile device, rolling out to select 2026 and 2027 Cadillac EVs, with more GM models to follow.
